There comes a point when you recognize in yourself that you could be successful doing anything you set your mind to. The question then becomes how do you spend your limited time on this earth. If you don't admire the position those ahead of you are in, then change it. Everyone in the service has heard "make a plan" when exiting - the purpose of that is because you can't wing it getting out.
